Release & Platforms

When does Gears of War: E-Day come out?

October 6, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam and Xbox app). Premium and Collector's Edition buyers play from October 1 via 5-day early access. It was announced June 9, 2024 and the 2026 window held.

Is E-Day coming to PS5?

No. Xbox confirmed at the June 2026 Showcase that E-Day is an Xbox console exclusive — despite a PEGI listing for PS5 appearing days earlier. It will not come to PS5 later.

Is E-Day on Game Pass?

Yes — day one for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Subscribers also got Open Beta access in August. One reported detail: multiplayer may require Game Pass Essential or higher.

Can my PC run it?

Minimum is an RTX 2060-class GPU (ray tracing mandatory), Ryzen 5 2600X/i5-10400, 12 GB RAM and 130 GB on SSD. Recommended: RTX 3060 Ti/5060-class, 16 GB RAM. Handhelds (Steam Deck, Xbox Ally) are supported.

Campaign

How long is the campaign?

Around 14 hours — the longest The Coalition has designed. It spans three days of Emergence Day in the city of Kalona, told entirely from Bravo Squad's perspective.

How many players can play the campaign?

Up to four: solo, two-player split-screen on console, or four-player online co-op. All four Bravo Squad members are playable from the start.

Do I need to play the older Gears games first?

No — E-Day is designed as the series' entry point. Playing Gears 1 (and 2) first adds emotional resonance, but nothing is required knowledge.

Who is the villain?

Vraahk, a Locust blight commander leading the siege of Kalona — created so the finale doesn't contradict Marcus meeting General RAAM in the original game.

Multiplayer

What multiplayer modes does E-Day have?

Horde Siege — 12 players in three squads defending Kalona with four classes — and 4v4 Versus: Team Deathmatch, Conquest, Demolition and the new Crucible mode, with Ranked and Social playlists.

What is Horde Siege?

The evolution of Gears' wave-survival Horde mode: three four-player squads with individual missions share large Kalona maps, with boss-level Invasion events and an extraction finale. Classes: Assault, Breacher, Marksman, Medic.

Is there cross-play?

Yes, between Xbox and PC, with roaming saves via account linking. Whether it can be disabled in ranked Versus hasn't been detailed.

Is there a battle pass?

No. The Coalition has emphasized no pay-to-win items and no battle-pass model — post-launch content is framed around seasonal customization packs and earnable rewards.

The Debates

Did they remove wall bouncing?

No — it's rebalanced. Bounces take longer to execute and are easier to read, and a wider sprint camera punishes blind bouncing. The 17-year community argument continues; the beta verdict was split exactly along that line.

Is E-Day casual-friendly?

That's the movement redesign's explicit goal — dedicated buttons instead of one contextual A, readable bounces, more verticality. Casual-perspective previews say yes for PvE; PvP remains the sweaty end.

Purchasing

What's in the Premium Edition?

The base game, 5-day early access (October 1), the Bravo Squad Signature Weapon Pack, 1,000 Iron, and five seasonal customization packs starting with Emergence. Standard is $69.99; Premium is $99.99.

Is there a physical edition?

Yes on Xbox Series X — a physical Standard Edition and a Collector's Edition with 15-inch Marcus and Dom statues and a 1:1 replica of Carlos Santiago's COG tags. PC is digital.
